Fishing Lessons? If you read my last post, you know that this post is going to have nothing to do with bass or trout and everything to do with finding clients or customers. I’m pleased to say that our first ‘lesson’ comes from Jackie Nees of Integrity Office Solutions. If you follow Jackie on Twitter you’ll know that she’s a skilled VA with great ‘fishing’ skills. Jackie says:
“It’s funny, there are so many VA’s out there that think they have to spend a ton of money on marketing and advertising before they get any clients. There are soooo many ways to market your business online.
90% of my clients have all come from connections I’ve made online. Whether it is Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Ladies Who Launch or other networks, I am consistently making myself known, introducing myself and asking people about their businesses. I talk about what I do but not in a sense that I’m hunting for victims but just a conversation. It really works! And it costs nothing more than time.
If new VAs or any new business owner could spend 30 minutes a day focusing their efforts on networking online they would see results almost immediately! I also highly recommend starting a blog. I only started mine a couple of months ago but I already have a following and people who don’t know me are emailing me telling me that my blog is inspiring and it has helped them. = MORE connections I didn’t have before.
Another BIG tip I have for anyone starting out in this business is when you do get a client, DO A GOOD JOB! Communicate with them, do a little extra for them. A little goes a long way. Keep them up to date and make suggestions if you know of a way to make their life or business easier. I’ve gotten so many referrals already just from clients loving that I’m there for them even though I’m virtual. It’s so simple but so important for repeat business and most importantly referrals.”
To sum it up, Lesson # 1 is to take the time to do some online networking. Utilize social media and networking sites. Don’t be afraid to speak up and let your voice be heard, no lurking in the shadows.
A huge Thank You to Jackie for sharing her ‘fishing lure’. I encourage more of you to send your great marketing ideas to tmariehilton@clericaladvantage.net . I’ll share them in upcoming ‘fishing’ lessons and include a link to your website.

Good post, GREAT lesson “…tip I have for anyone starting out in this business is when you do get a client, DO A GOOD JOB! Communicate with them, do a little extra for them.”
This is something everyone should read. Stumbled!
Great post. I agree that there are so many ways to market online - and many of them are free!
I think it’s good to spread yourself around - social media sites, related forums, do some guest blogging on blogs related to your niche, write some articles.
And I wholeheartedly agree that you should treat your customers WELL. Referrals are a great way to expand your business.
Online marketing can bring great profit. So thanks for the tips and good information
