In my home office, I utilize two virtual assistants. Each of them have specific skills that work well with me. I have been using a VA since I moved to a home office January of 2005 and both working from home and using a VA has worked well.
Top 10 ways to make your virtual assistant love you is a post which appeared on the blog, Ultimate Biz Assistant.
While I would bet, neither of my VA’s would say they love me. They both most likely would say they just tolerate me. The list provided by the Ultimate Biz Assistant is a good one those of us who use a VA should live by.
Here is the list:
- Communication
- Only send one email and not 10 for one project per day
- Don’t use the phone if an email will do
- Pay on time
- Clear directions
- Give a bonus
- Referrals (Send her/him some)
- Make a call (Don’t overuse email, call at least once a month)
- Say Thank-you
- Respect their time
- Tell them problems
- Give a gift
Utilizing a VA is one of the tools those of us who work from a home office can do which really opens up a lot of possibilities. Man, I cannot believe the risqué content on this website. Okay, I did not get pass the headline, but then I am not sure I want to read this stuff.
It’s always great to hear a list like this from a client’s perspective!

Nice List!
Here’s a few more:
Tell them problems EARLY
Compliment them for a job well done
Provide a testimonial
USE all of the hours you paid for (a VA does not want to be paid and not given any assignments!)
Don’t be underestimate the abilities of your VA

This is a good list; however, I would add one item. We, virtual assistants, don’t need to be micro-managed.
Rita — I agree completely. If anything, and I am serious, my VA’s manage me. As I have said before, I could not do what I do without the virtual assistants I work with.
Any one will always love to be acknowledged and affirmed for a task well done. Virtual assistants, though paid for their work, will always find it comforting and in fact, encouraging to hear compliments for a task well done. Of course, it always do good favor if there is open communication between VAs and their clients. It will make them feel they play a significant part in the business.
