So you’ve decided to be a Home Office Warrior. Ah, yes. The good life. Awake at 8am, stumble over to the computer in your jammies and let that first cup of java sink in. No commute, all the time and the world and you’ll probably get rich too!
I think most freelance business owners have at least a little chunk of this fantasy stored in the back of their brain. Perhaps the scenario above is what enticed someone to be a freelance business owner in the first place.
After a certain period of time, (about 15 minutes) it becomes apparent that the fantasy is just that: fantasy. Make no mistake, a Warriors job is a difficult one. It is a job. Of course there are benefits to this lifestyle and it works well for quite a few folks, not so well for others.
Here are some tips to help you on your way:
These simple tips should help you to build a solid foundation for becoming a successful freelance business owner.
How about other freelance business owners who have become successful Warriors? What tips do you have for remaining focused and on the job?

Great tips, George.
I agree with you completely that you need to treat it as a job to be the most successful.
When i first started out I thought I could more or less work out in the open at home. It didn’t take long for me to realize that it wouldn’t fly. The office is extremely important.
For me, one of the best things about working from home is the day-to-day schedule flexibility.
Generally, I try to work between 9-4 PM Mon-Fri. It doesn’t always work out that way, as I work with clients on the East coast that make it necessary for me to adjust so we hit their deadlines.
Also, if something comes up with the family, I love the fact that I can adjust my work to fit with their lives. The focus used to be the opposite, but now I have the power to decide where my time is best spent.
However, I agree that setting guidelines for your schedule is key. If it becomes too lax, you may find you never really get anything going.
Good foundation stuff, George!
Hey George,
you are right on! discipline is a must. And those sweet little family members need a gently reminder (often) that yes, this is a real job.
Another key to success, when you decide to start a work from home, home ,is to remember that your business is not a hobby, but rather something that will have to be worked. When you make a decision to start a work at home, home business, you will just be at the beginning of a long rewarding, sometimes frustrating journey.
