There was a time when certain professionals, such as doctors and lawyers, did not advertise in a general way. In some arenas, advertising was looked down upon and considered to be below the standard. In others, particularly the law, advertising specific services was illegal. Once the ban on television advertisements was lifted, there were some lawyers who ventured forth to test the waters. Naturally, they were shunned by peers, relegated to the same category as ambulance chasers. That is, until the peers saw how the advertisements paid off in a very big way.

It is all over the Internet the last couple of days. Google will be storing patients’ medical records online. I for one just don’t see where this will work. I certainly realize there will be some form of an opt-in only program and your records will not be available unless you want them to be.
Even with that. I don’t plan to opt-in anytime soon. I cannot see where Google can insure the records will not be subject to hackers getting into them.

From Money:
The presidential candidates’ health-care-reform plans talk about things you want, like choice and affordability. They’re mostly silent on what you might lose. As I write this, we don’t know who the Republican and Democratic nominees will be, but since the candidates pretty much adhere to their party lines, it’s easy to imagine how a health-care debate would play on TV. But if we could slip a little truth serum into their water glasses…

Medtronic on has received federal approval to sell its drug-coated stent, the first to hit the U.S. market since safety concerns sank their popularity two years ago. The Food and Drug Administration said it cleared the company’s Endeavor stent for use in patients with clogged arteries. Medtronic said it expects to ship 100,000 units to hospitals in February.
Endeavor is one of a new generation of stents the industry hopes can rejuvenate U.S. demand for the drug-oozing devices, sales of which plummeted to $2 billion last year, down from a peak of $3.1 billion in 2005.
Stents are tiny, mesh-wire tubes that prop open arteries after they have been surgically cleared of fatty plaque. They became one of the most lucrative medical devices in modern history after companies began adding drug coatings to stents in 2003 to prevent blood clotting.
An estimated 6 million people worldwide have had one implanted. Hopefully this new one is going to be problem free.

The new year is quickly approaching and it will be time again for making those weight loss resolutions. Here is a quick peice of advice to make this years resolution become a weight loss reality. Start changing your habits now! Don’t wait till January the first to begin altering your lifestyle because it is bound to fail. Many folks pack on an extra 10 or 15 pounds during the holiday season and that will make it that much more difficult to lose the weight come the new year. Here are some simple tips that you can start with to make your new years resolution of weight loss come true:
1. Drink more water and fruit juices and less pop, beer and wine. Don’t cut out the beverages you love completely, simply start by cutting back on two sugar loaded drinks a day and replacing them with water or fruit juice.
2. Everyone loves to snack, so replace one of your fatty snacks with an extra piece of fresh fruit or low-fat yogurt. It is a small step but every little bit helps and what really makes the difference is getting used to picking up a healthy snack as opposed to chips or a chocolate bar.
3. Do a bit of excercise every day. If you have not done anything active in a long-time or even if you do get active once-in-a-while start off with 15 minutes of brisk walking or 15 minutes of stretching every single day.
Again, the trick is to change your lifestyle habits just a little bit so when you take the next step it will be that much easier and you will have a greater chance for success. When it comes time to choose a weight loss diet make sure to pick one that offers you lots of flexibility to you can stick with it.

Whenever I use the treadmill at the gym, I like to get the most out of it while I am there. If you are the same way, there are some common mistakes to avoid to help improve your workout:
Too Many Distractions
Often times I see many people walking slowly while they watch the televisions or read a book or magazine. It’s important to keep your intensity at a good level in order for your workout to be effective. Interval routines work well for this, especially if you want to make the time fly by — which is mainly why many people distract themselves with tv, books, magazines in the first place.
Not Utilizing the Incline
You can get a great workout just by increasing the incline on the treadmill. Increasing the incline will increase the work needed by your legs and glute muscles. I sometimes increase the incline while doing intervals and it can be tough!
Holding On or Leaning
You can burn more calories by not holding on to the handlebars or leaning on the machine. Constantly holding on or leaning means you take your body weight off of your legs. If you feel you need to hold on, try reducing the speed.
Performing the Same Routines
Doing the same routine on the treadmill is not only boring but can eventually be ineffective after awhile. Try changing it up once in awhile with intervals or by increasing your intensity.
